Peter Anthony Morgan, better known by his stage name Peetah Morgan and a member of the reggae group Morgan Heritage, died at 46. On Sunday, February 25, 2024, a statement released by the band’s official social media account confirmed his death.
“With deep love in our hearts, the @morganheritage family is saddened to share that our cherished husband, father, son, brother, and the renowned lead singer of Morgan Heritage, Peter Morgan, passed on today, February 25th, 2024,” read a statement released through a publicist.
After Morgan Heritage was founded in 1994, the band played at Jamaica’s Reggae Sunsplash for the first time before signing with MCA and releasing their debut album, “Miracles,” that same year. With an album signalling their debut into the music industry, they initially leaned more toward a pop-influenced sound. Following the album’s release, the family moved to Jamaica, Denroy’s native country. There, they worked with reggae producers Bobby Dixon and Lloyd James, resulting in albums like “Protect Us Jah” (1997), “One Calling” (1998), and “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999), which showed a more spiritual direction. With Peetah Morgan as lead singer, they toured, put out compilation albums, and recorded live performances for albums like “Live in Europe!” in 2000.
Morgan Heritage continued their musical journey with the 2001 release of “More Teachings..” They then travelled throughout Europe and took part in tours such as the Vans Warped Tour. With the releases of “Three in One” (2003), “Full Circle” (2005), and “Mission In Progress” (2008), which included hits like “Faithful” and “Raid Rootz Dance,” their discography grew. Following solo endeavours, they came together again in 2012, releasing “The Return” and dropping hints about a new album. They later revealed “Here Come the Kings” (2013) and started a European tour.
Morgan Heritage was nominated for “Avrakedabra” (2018) and won Best Reggae Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards for “Strictly Roots.”

The family wishes to thank the public in advance for all of the love and support provided. They are currently travelling and ask for your unwavering prayers to help them. Please respect their right to privacy while they recover.
A memoir about life, struggles, and accomplishments is being written and will be made public.
Thank you, The Morgan Family (public relations).
